In this project, you will work in small groups (3-4 students) to investigate an ancient civilization and tokmjcreate a Wiki explaining key elements of that civilization.
Your group may choose from the following ancient civilizations: Greek, Roman, China, Indian, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Aztec, Inca, Mayan
Materials:
You will use the Internet, socials textbook and trade books from the library to assist you in your research. A limited number of web sites has been provided, but you will need to look for additional information.
Research:
A) You will research the first four Key Topics and three secondary Key Topics from the list provided. You will complete the research notes document in Google Docs by searching through textbooks, trade books and the Internet. While searching the Internet you will collect images to use on your Wiki page. Your research notes will be graded and form part of your overall project mark.
B) Each member of your group will meet and consolidate their research notes on the four Key Topics. Using the sharing function in Google Docs, your group will be responsible for completing the Group Planning Document for the four Key Topics: Geography, Time Period, Government, and Rise & Fall of the civilization. In addition, each group member will be responsible for choosing and completing an Individual Planning Document on one other aspects of civilization. These secondary topics include; religion, economy, technology, art/architecture, and social classes (slavery). Individual groups will be expected to work together to decide which secondary topic each group member will do so there is no overlap or repetition of topics.
C) Each planning document will include space for:
1) Titles/Headings
2) Written Content (Answers to the Key Topic Questions)
3) Images and text other features supporting the written content.
4) Sources of Information (Bibliography)
Presentation:
A) Your group will decide on a layout for your Wiki page.
B) The Wiki must include the four main topics research by the group: geography, government, religion and rise & fall of the civilization. In addition, each member of the group must add an secondary topic that they have researched and written on their own.
C) The Wiki will be graded according to the following criteria:
1) Content: Key Questions have been answered accurately and thoroughly
2) Layout: Design: Table of Contents, headings, images, captions, text boxes, etc. all enhance the presentation of information and navigation of the page
3) Mechanics: Spelling, Punctuation, and Capitalization
Evaluation:
The project will be grades on the following five elements:
1) Portfolio containing: Note-taking and Planning Documents
2) The Content and Appearance of the Wiki
3) Group Evaluation
4) Self-Evaluation
5) One essay question on some aspect of Ancient Civilization
